THE REPORT CARD
Remember in school periodically we would get a report card to let us and our parents know how we were doing? We got daily grades so we had an idea as we were going a long how we were doing. But the quarterly grades helped in case some problem area was starting to arise it could be taken care of before the problem got worse.
When report card day came and we had A’s and B’s we felt like we were doing well. We’d head home with our heads up high feeling all right. Feeling pretty good about ourselves.
Now if we got C’s we were okay. Could be worse, could be better but that was average. It was okay.
Then there was the D.
You remember the dreaded D. The
D stood
for Danger,
Detour. We
need a Direction change. We are one step a way from Disaster,
which is the failing F.
Just like the report cards we
got in school, we can check ourselves emotionally and grade ourselves
to see how we are doing. We can do this on a daily basis.
Just like David, when we discover
emotional
D’s
in our lives we need to go to God and figure
out what is holding us up and keeping us back.
We don’t want the enemy to get a foothold in our lives.
Be angry and sin not; let not the sun go down upon your wrath:
neither give place to the devil.
David felt Disquieted within himself. He says in PSALM 43:5
Why
art thou cast down, O my soul? And
why art thou Disquieted within me? Hope
in God: for I shall yet praise
him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.
David knew when he recognized
a D on his emotional
report card just what to do. He
knew how to keep the enemy from getting a foothold in his life.
He knew to look up and to trust in God.
What are some of the emotional D’s we
could discover on our emotional report card?
Have we ever been Disqualified
or Dejected? Have we ever had Disease or experienced
Disloyalty
or Distrust? Have we ever felt Discouraged,
Disgusted,
Depressed,
Discredited,
Dumped,
Disappointed
or been Disgraced? Well there are a lot of things that can just
make us feel Down
and we have all experienced of few of these
D’s from time
to time.
Jesus wants to help.
He wants to raise your emotional report card from a D to a C. It’s not far just from
D to C. Jesus
looks with love and longing in His heart to help you.
He says Come.
Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden,
and I will give you rest.
Let
us
Come
boldly
to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace
to help in time of need.
Give Jesus a chance to lift your spirits.
Your situation may not change immediately but your emotional out look; your emotional report card may surprisingly rise from the D to a B or an A. You can get there by remembering to go through the letter C - come - to Jesus. Jesus’ invitation to you to come never goes away.
