CASTING
I remember, as a little girl, my Dad
would take my sister and I fishing. We'd stand on the dock and Dad would
patiently teach us the fine art of fishing.
What I remember most was him teaching us how to cast.
It was very important to get the hook just as far out into the water as
possible while avoiding getting the hook caught in the person standing
next to you. (Which at that time was usually my sister or my Dad.)
We'd work at getting our wrist action in there and sling the hook out
- plop - into the water.
After a while we got pretty good at casting out into the deep water. We
would hear that plop sound as the hook hit the water and settled in and
the bobber would do its job bobbing along waiting for a fish.
Now as kids I think the bobber was smarter then us. We'd get impatient
very quickly and reel the hook back in and cast it back out.
Dad's second lesson, " If you don't leave the hook out there and keep
reeling the hook back in you'll scare away all the fish and you won't
catch any." " You have to sit patiently and wait."
When we cast out in the deep and left our hook out there, that is when
we started catching fish.
I think prayer is a lot like fishing. Jesus says we should be
" CASTING ALL OUR CARE UPON HIM; FOR HE CARETH FOR YOU. " 1
PETER 4:7
Even if you have never fished or don't care much for "the fine art of
fishing" I think you can do this.
Picture yourself standing on a dock and practice casting your cares out
to Jesus. Picture Him out on the water patiently waiting for you to let
Him carry your burdens for you.
It's okay, You can do it. Cast it out there. It may not go far from you
until you practice your casting but soon you'll find that your cares go
way out there.
Like my Dad taught us girls. Yes it is important to cast but more important
once you get the hook out there to sit and be patient and wait. That's
when the fish come and Yes that is when you'll get your answer from Jesus.
